Kantari Eguna 2017 in Gardnerville
This Saturday, August 12th, the Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba will host this year's NABO Kantari Eguna celebration. The festivities will actually begin on Friday night at the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room with a dance to the music of Manuela and Jean Pierre Etchechury, and Jean Flesher. Saturday's events begin at 11am at the CVIC Hall in Minden with mass celebrated by Fr. Aita Lastiri. Mass will include the participation this year of the Zaria Koru Eskola Choir who is visiting from Errenteria, Gipuzkoa, directed by Imanol Elizasu. After mass, a BBQ lunch will be served that includes BBQ lamb, chicken, lamb stew, beans, salad, cheese, ice cream & wine. Cost of the lunch is $25 per adult & $10 per child under 12, and tickets are available at the door. After lunch the entertainment will begin with Basque dancing performances by the hosting club's dance group, as well as Reno's Zazpiak Bat Basque Club dancers. Singing entertainment will be provided again by the Zaria Koru Eskola, and Jean Bordachar, one of the greatest promoters of popular song from Zuberoa, as well as by various audience members who may take the stage. After the Kantaldi, there will also be children's games, txorizo sandwiches, and another public dance beginning at 8pm, this time also at the CVIC Hall to the music of Manuela and Jean Pierre Etchechury, and Jean Flesher. Junior Mus Tournament
This year's NABO Jr. Mus Tournament will also be held during Kantari Eguna in Gardnerville. If your club's Jr. Mus team will be able to participate, please contact Jr. Mus Chair, Gina Espinal Aguerre at this email. She will also be able to provide more details on the event including time and place.
Chino Basque Picnic Booklet Opportunities
The Chino Basque Club's Annual Picnic is soon approaching. Anyone wishing to advertise, place a memorial, or send their best wishes or personal message in their program book, is asked to do so by August 11th. You can find more information about ad sizes and pricing here. They are also having a contest to determine what the booklet's cover will be. Size of the booklet will be 5.5 x 8.5 and all submissions should include Chino Basque Club and September 3, 2017 in their designs. The winning submission will not only be featured on the cover of this year's booklet, but the winner will also receive two complimentary picnic meal tickets. Picon Open in Susanville
The Susanville Eskualdun Inc. Basque Club is resurrecting its "Picon Open," an event that was originally created and hosted by the St. Francis Hotel. This year's event will take place at the Diamond Mountain Golf Course on August 19th from 8am-9pm. It is a four man scramble and the cost to participate is $100 per golfer, which includes dinner provided by the club. The goal of the tournament is to raise money for a scholarship for a high-school senior. Registration forms can be picked up and dropped off at 1825 Main Street, Susanville CA or call: 530-310-4167.
